Terpenes are produced in plants through the pathway of enzymatic synthesis which contains a series of chain-like processes that create larger compounds (for example, monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes), and which are influenced by both the genetic make up and environmental conditions of the plant at the time of growth. In the commercial industry, terpenes can also be created through fermentation and through chemical processes.
